Homeownership Center Opens in East Bay

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KCBS) California's job and housing markets are expected to continue to suffer in the second half of 2010 according to the UCLA Anderson Forecast.

And although the cities in eastern Contra Costa County have been among the hardest hit in terms of foreclosures, there are also struggling homeowners in the upscale neighborhoods as well.

The problem has become so widespread that Chase Bank decided to open a homeownership center in Walnut Creek.

Jasvar Kaur of San Ramon was one of the first customers at the newly opened center on Tuesday and is seeking a home modification loan.

She said her husband was out of work last year, but he's now found another job.

"I just hope people can stay in their homes. Everybody's coming here to keep their homes," said Kaur. "That's all that I want."

Chase officials told Kaur that they would try to help her out, but she had to return with paperwork and documentation before they could proceed with her loan.
