Four-Alarm Fire in San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) Firefighters are battling a four-alarm fire at a commercial building in west San Jose and have issued a shelter-in-place warning for a half-mile to a mile area south of where it's burning.

San Jose fire Captain Chuck Rangel said the fire was reported at 1:52 p.m. at a building on Rogers Avenue.

"Within six minutes, fire crews arrived on scene and were faced with a 100 by 300 foot, one-story concrete building with a flat roof," said Rangel. "This is a commercial occupancy and there are probably about five or six businesses in here."

Fire officials are asking people living or working in the area to stay inside due to the possibly toxic air near the blaze.

Rangel said he expected the control and cleanup efforts to go on through the night as they try to make sure all the hot spots are taken care of.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
