East Wilts Under Heat Wave

PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ The East is getting baked by the heat again.

Heat and humidity draped the Northeast and mid-Atlantic for yet another day Wednesday. By late morning the temperature in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Richmond, Va., was already 97 degrees. The forecast for those cities is triple digits.

Cities farther north, including New York, are predicted to get into the high 90s, though higher humidity will make it feel worse.

There are scattered power outages. The heat also is hampering train travel, forcing nursing homes with power problems to evacuate and buckling highways.

In Rhode Island, two beach towns are being hit with an added layer of inconvenience: Residents have been asked to boil their water before using it because high demand has increased the chance of contamination.
