Field Poll: Californians Unhappy with State Management

An overwhelming number of Californians believe the state is headed in the wrong direction, with the latest Field Poll showing the governor and legislature with some of the lowest approval ratings on record.

The governor's approval rating has dropped to 22 percent, meaning the image-conscious Arnold Schwarzenegger's number is the same as Gray Davis, when Davis was ousted by Schwarzenegger seven years ago.

Meanwhile, the legislature's rating is at 16 percent, and 79 percent of Californians believe the state is headed in the wrong direction.

Mark DiCamillo of the Field Poll says this wasn't the case a year and a half ago.

"Last year, for example, when Barack Obama was elected president, Californians were positive about the direction of the company, even though times were bad, because they saw a new leader with some new ideas that would move us forward in the right direction," said DiCamillo.

DiCamillo says it doesn't help that the state budget is always late, year after year.
