The suspect ran from those officers. Oakland police joined with BART officers in attempting to detain the man, including attempts to tase him.

He continued to run and eventually charged at one of the officers with a knife.

Five officers on scene opened fire on him and shot and killed the man.

Witnesses in the area said shortly before being shot, the man shouted "Shoot me, shoot me" to the officers.

Police are still waiting to conduct toxicology reports on the man. Oakland police said this week's layoffs within the department in no way inhibited their reactions to this crime.
