Dog Attacks Girl in Oakland

OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS/CBS-5) _ There was another dog attack on a young child in the East Bay on Saturday, as a seven-year-old Oakland girl was bit in the face and had to undergo surgery.

It happened around 3 p.m. in the backyard of a home near the corner of 82nd Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard in East Oakland.

A neighbor told CBS-5 that he saw the whole thing unfold.

"The guy was sitting down with a pit bull, holding the pit bull with another young girl that was there for a couple of weeks that had never been bitten before," he said. "My friend's daughter went back there and while I was there, he asked her if she would like to pet the dog."

The girl said yes and the dog immediately lunged at the girl and bit her in the face.

"She got bit in the mouth. It looked like the side of her mouth had a chunk taken out of it," he said.

The girl was rushed to Children's Hospital in Oakland where she underwent surgery.

Alameda County Animal Control came and took the animal away. Its fate is still unknown.

It's also unclear if the owner of the dog will face any charges. It was just a few days ago when a two-year-old Concord boy was mauled to death by three pit bulls at his house.
