Mechanical problems on southbound Caltrain trains Thursday caused delays of 30 minutes to an hour in both directions during the morning commute.
The first train broke down at Belmont Station at 5:48 a.m. Later another southbound train had mechanical problems during the 7 o’clock hour, and Caltrains had to evacuate a separate southbound train which it used to move the disabled train.
Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said those incidents would create residual delays throughout the morning commute. Depending on the train, delays ranged from 10 minutes to an hour.
KCBS’ Janice Wright reports that by 9:55 a.m., Caltrain was back on schedule.

Who is in charge of Caltrain maintenance? There have been more breakdowns and other problems WITHIN Caltrain’s control this year than I can remember in past years.
Also, why does it seem that when there is a problem on one train, they change a whole bunch of other train stopping patterns, making everyone late to work, and leading to missed transit connections?
They are running fewer trains at mid-day, so in theory there should be MORE time to inspect and maintain trains mid-day.
This person who hates driving is considering going back to the car, because I hate being late even more. How many times can I apologize to my boss in one year?
