A 17-year-old Fremont girl will be charged as an adult for the execution-style killings of two people during a robbery on Mother’s Day.
The girl was arrested on her way to an interview with a job placement organization on Thursday, said Hayward Police Captain Darryl McAllister. She had been taken into custody the night of the May 9 shootings but detectives did not have enough evidence to connect her to the crime.
The girl and an accomplice who has been in police custody, 21-year-old Isaiah Washington, are accused of targeting the two victims as the men were getting out of their car on West Park Street.
Police say the suspects approached Rafael Avila and Carlos Buenrostro and ordered them to the ground, eventually shooting them to death with an assault rifle.
After the shooting, police managed to find the pair hiding in Oakland. The girl was arrested and later released because of a lack of evidence. Washington remained under arrest in Santa Rita jail on a parole violation.
McAllister said a 2½ month investigation concluded that each of the suspects had a role in firing upon the victims.
The girl used to be a student at Hayward Continuation School, but is no longer a student. She was booked Thursday at the Hayward Police Department, transferred to juvenile hall, and her arraignment has not yet been scheduled.
Washington will be arraigned next Wednesday.
