Driver Involved in Five Collisions

DANVILLE, Calif. (KCBS) _ Danville Police say an alleged drunk driver was involved in five hit and run collisions Sunday morning, hitting a bicyclist, pedestrian, truck, light pole and SUV.

Officers responded to reports of a dangerous driver along Danville Boulevard and Railroad Avenue around 10 a.m.

After investigations, they found that the driver, 23-year-old Cainan Schierholtz was traveling southbound on Danville Boulevard when he struck a bicyclist. Officers said he then hit a pedestrian standing in the bike lane, swerved into traffic and collided with a truck. Schierholtz  is reportedly the younger brother of 26-year-old San Francisco Giants outfielder Nate Schierholtz.

He then continued southbound on Railroad Avenue where he hit a light pole and then collided with the rear of a Lexus SUV.

Police said Schierholtz never stopped at any of the collisions. Witnesses followed him to the intersection of Montair Drive and Macomber Road where officers took him into custody.

The bicyclist was taken to a hospital and treated for multiple abrasions, contusions and minor head lacerations. The pedestrians and two occupants of the SUV sought their own medical treatment.

The driver of the truck was uninjured.

Schierholtz was booked on four counts of DUI causing bodily harm, three counts of hit and run causing personal injury, two counts of hit and run property damage and driving without a license.

He is being held on $350,000 bail.
