Bill Passed to Protect Kids from Underage Drinking

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCBS)_The state Legislature has passed a bill that would hold adults who provide alcohol to minors responsible if those minors are injured or killed in drink-related accidents.

Supporters say it would deter adults from promoting underage drinking and reduce alcohol-related deaths. Opponents argue that people age 18 to 20 are adults under most areas of the law and should be held accountable for their actions.

The bill would not apply to commercial or licensed alcohol vendors.

It will now go to Governor Schwarzenegger for his signature.
