State Board of Ed. Adopts National Standards

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCBS)_ The state Board of Education has agreed to adopt common national academic standards in an effort to improve California's chances of getting a piece of the federal school funding pie.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger praised the board's decision.

States that adopt these common standards score higher in the battle for the White House's "Race to the Top" grant money.

California is currently a finalist in that competition.

Critics are concerned that the national standard isn't as stringent as California's educational framework.
