Brokaw to Moderate CA Debate for Governor

The gubernatorial debate this October between Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman will be moderated by long-time NBC anchor Tom Brokaw.

Brokaw will be the sole questioner when the two come to Dominican University in San Rafael. He covered Brown's first run for office in 1969 and has moderated presidential debates since 1976.

That hour-long debate, set for October 12th, is expected to be the most widely-viewed of the three debates scheduled between Whitman and Brown.

Word that Brokaw will moderate comes amid criticism that Whitman has avoided reporters and that Brown has not offered many fully developed policy proposals since entering the race in March.

Brokaw has appeared at major conferences with Whitman and worked with her senior strategist when he had a stint on NBC as a political analyst.
