Bargains for Back to School Shoppers

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) _ With just a few weeks to go until school starts, the retail battle is on for shoppers looking for bargains.

Some retail industry experts are wondering if stores will be able to sell the merchandise they bought in the spring, expecting a strong consumer rebound.

Raynessa Mims was at the Westfield Shopping Center in San Francisco, dressed from head to toe in new gear.

"I got these from Old Navy. They were on sale at that time," she said about her new sunglasses.

On sale seems to be a key strategy for many retailers, as signs in windows of stores are offering buy one get one half off, 25 percent discounts and other bargains.

Alexis Anderson has her favorites.

"Juicy Couture, Forever 21, all the girly stuff," she said.

Vivienne Chao does get money from her parents, but also spent her own money.

"I got a job for the summer so I'm mostly going to spend what I worked for," she said.

Chao is one of the lucky ones as the teen unemployment rate stands at 26 percent.
