Courts Likely to Get Claim in CA Teen Killing

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- The board that considers compensation for California crime victims is being told it should reject a claim filed by the parents of Amber Dubois, a San Diego teenager killed by a paroled sex offender.

A spokesperson for the Victim Compensation and Government Claims Board says that staff is recommending the claim be handled by the courts.

Paroled sex offender John Gardner the Third pleaded guilty earlier this year to raping and murdering the 14-year-old last February.

He has also admitted to raping and killing another San Diego County girl.
