SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) _ First-time homebuyers who are looking to take advantage of a state income-tax credit worth up to $10,000 have until August 15 to apply.
“Buyers have an opportunity right now to not only get a credit from the state, but to take advantage of all-time low interest rates and really soft prices from the seller’s side,” said San Jose realtor Cherie Colon. “So it’s a great time for them to qualify.”
Colon said the credit can make all the difference for first-time homebuyers.
“Even on a fully advertised loan, it can make a difference of so much per month that it could get you a little nicer house,” she said. “It could play closing costs, it could go for a number of things. It’s just money in your pocket.”
Applications do outnumber the amount of money available. But because some applications are invalid or duplicates, the Franchise Tax Board is continuing to accept applications.
