REDDING, Calif. (KCBS)_ Authorities say DNA evidence links an Iowa man to a 1991 rape and murder cold case in Northern California.

Shasta County authorities are seeking to extradite 43-year-old Brian Eric Norton to face charges in the attack on Despina Magioudis.

The 53-year-old woman was found raped, strangled and beaten to death in a field in Redding where she was staying briefly after visiting Mount Shasta.

Norton’s DNA was collected while serving time in an Iowa prison for a 2007 rape conviction.

Prosecutors say Norton could face the death penalty.
