OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ Oakland police are investigating the death of a 15-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself while he and his younger brother were playing with a gun.

Officer Jeff Thomason, a police spokesman, says the brothers were handling the gun when the 15-year-old shot himself in their aunt’s bathroom around 7:45 p.m. Monday.

The wounded teen was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Thomason says the victim’s 13-year-old brother was questioned by police and then released to family members.

Investigators are still trying to determine how the brothers got the gun and who owns the weapon. Thomason says it’s too early to determine if any charges will be filed.
