Furloughs Back on This Friday

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KCBS) _ Furlough Fridays are back on.

The state Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed a lower court's decision to put furloughs on hold.

Governor Schwarzenegger's administration had recently ordered workers to be furloughed three days a month as a way to conserve money.  A previous round of furloughs had ended in June.

The furloughs save the state an estimated $147 million per month.

An Alameda County Superior Court judge had issued a temporary restraining order preventing the governor from implementing the latest furloughs.

The Supreme Court is expected to hear arguments on the matter September 8.

Under the current plan, furloughs will remain in effect until a state budget is approved.
