Return of Furlough Fridays Vex the DMV

SAN MATEO (KCBS)_ A slew of DMV's and other state facilities are closed this Friday.

The state worker furloughs reinstated by the governor following a decision by an appeals court that allowed him to do so, took some people at the San Mateo DMV office by surprise.

CBS-5's Anne Makovec talked to several people who even confirmed Friday's scheduled appointments with the DMV earlier this week.

"It certainly causes a lot of frustration, especially with people who had appointments with the DMV and thought they were going to get their license or get their license renewed," says Makovec.

She added people took time off of work and school because they thought they had appointments.

The DMV posted the closure notice on its website sometime after the appeals court decision Wednesday.

The DMV says anyone who had an appointment either this Friday or the next should reschedule.

And, if your vehicle registration expires this Friday, you can still renew it on Monday without paying a penalty.
