SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) _ San Jose fire crews responding to a one-alarm fire in South San Jose Sunday morning also uncovered a marijuana grow operation.
San Jose Fire Captain Chuck Rangel said the fire was reported in the garage of a split-level home on Plainfield Court around 6:45 a.m.
“The San Jose Police Department was on scene and did report that there was several rooms full of marijuana plants within the home,” said Rangel. “This is a four-bedroom house and all four bedrooms were full of marijuana plants.”
Rangel said the fire was controlled within a half hour, but it appears to have been caused by faulty electrical wiring associated with the pot growing operation established in the home.
Rangel said PG&E service had been bypassed and internal wiring was manipulated to avoid detection. Utility crews went to the home after the fire to secure the location.
No one was in the home when fire crews arrived and police continue their investigations.
