Prosecutors filed felony charges today against an Antioch man accused of seriously injuring his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son, possibly causing the child to lose use of one his arms.

The incident happened on Aug. 20 at a home on Peppertree Way where 28-year-old Aaron Handy, his girlfriend and her child lived.

Police say Handy was home watching the boy when he allegedly injured him after getting angry.

When the boy’s mother came home, she found her son unconscious.

Police said Handy tried to convince the mother not to call 911 for her child, then fled the home.

The boy was flown by helicopter to a hospital to be treated for a traumatic brain injury.

Doctors put him in a medically induced coma and removed a portion of his skull to alleviate swelling in the brain.

Prosecutors say it is still too soon to tell whether the boy will have permanent brain damage, but doctors believe there is a possibility that he will lose the ability to move one of his arms.

Handy could face a maximum sentence of 17 years in prison.
