San Jose Police Shoot, Kill Knife-Wielding Man

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) _ San Jose police have shot and killed a 42-year-old man they say was wielding a 10-inch knife after he apparently tried to shoot himself with a nail gun.

Sgt. Ronnie Lopez says officers responded to the man's South San Jose apartment at about 9:15 a.m. Sunday after his estranged wife reported that he had used a nail gun to shoot himself.

Police tried for up to 45 minutes to talk to the man through the door but got no response. They then forced their way into the apartment and found the man holding a knife. A nail gun was nearby.
