REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. (KCBS) _ Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Mark Hurd, who resigned last month following allegations of sexual harassment, is in talks to join Oracle as a top executive.

According to the Wall Street Journal, people familiar with the matter have cautioned that the talks weren’t complete and it was possible that Hurd’s hiring could still fall through.

Oracle’s board would also still need to approve any appointment.

The same sources also said that Larry Ellison, who founded Oracle and has been the company’s only CEO, will not vacate that position.

Silicon Valley Leadership Group President and CEO Carl Guardino said Ellison and Hurd know each other well and share a great deal of respect for one another.

“Larry Ellison quickly came to Mark Hurd’s defense and I’ll paraphrase. He said it was the stupidest decision that the HP board had ever made to let him go,” said Guardino.

Hurd resigned from HP in early August after a former marketing contractor came forward with allegations of sexual harassment against him.

An investigation by Hewlett-Packard’s board found that Hurd didn’t violate the company’s sexual harassment policy, but did violate HP’s code of business conduct.
