Search Continues at Bay Point Landfill

BAY POINT, Calif. (KCBS) _ Tuesday marks the fifth day a team of volunteers and police investigators will search the Keller Canyon Landfill in Bay Point to look for the body of a missing Hercules resident.

"We have approximately 20 people. Three of those are Hercules police investigators," said Hercules police spokeswoman Doreen Matthews. "We have some volunteers from our community emergency response team."

Matthews said investigators believe the landfill is the prime location to find the body of 35-year-old Frederick Sales, who has been missing for more than a week.

Police say they believe his father was murdered by Efren Valdemoro, who was fatally shot last Tuesday by the CHP following a high-speed chase.

Matthews said the group is combing through thousands of tons of debris.

"Depending on what we find, our case is pretty much done. Vallejo police are still investigating and trying to tie up that case with the two women who were murdered in Vallejo," she said.

Police believe Valdemoro is connected to the homicides and authorities say he strangled his girlfriend, Cindy Tran, as her body was found in his car following his death.
