A 34-year-old man who worked for the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District was arrested by San Rafael police Thursday, for allegedly embezzling nearly $100,000 from the district.
James Brewer, a Rohnert Park resident, was arrested after police discovered he was using district credit cards to make unauthorized purchases at local businesses for his own personal gain.
On Aug. 24, police met with district management about the case, which was developed during a review of purchase invoices at the district’s accounting office.
Brewer, who was a buyer with the district’s bus division in San Rafael, had embezzled about $98,000, according to police. He is no longer employed by the district.
He was arrested today and booked into Marin County jail.
