Silicon Valley CEOs Want A's in San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) - Executives at some of the Bay Area's largest technology companies have signed a letter urging Major League Baseball to allow the A's to move to San Jose.

John Chambers of Cisco Systems, Yahoo's Carol Bartz and John Donahoe at eBay are among the 75 presidents and CEOs now backing the proposed move.

"You have to take that seriously," said Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone, a prominent sports booster.

MLB Commissioner Bud Selig has yet to comment on a two-page letter from the Silicon Valley Leadership Group that argues San Jose offers a level of corporate support to baseball that no other Bay Area city can match.

Selig has convened a committee to explore the move, opposed by the San Francisco Giants whose territorial rights include the South Bay.
