New Rules Target Bay To Breakers Rowdiness
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) - Organizers of San Francisco's Bay to Breakers race say starting next year people who have not registered will be escorted off the course by police and private security.
Race spokesman Sam Singer says the number of people who can register for the race will also be capped at 50,000. The new rules were finalized Thursday after organizers met with the Mayor's Office, neighborhood groups and police.
More than 20,000 people finish the annual 12K race from the San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean, but some 70,000 others attend the notoriously bawdy event that features wild costumes.
Floats and alcohol have also been banned from the event next year amid complaints from residents along the course of drunken racers and public urination.
