Oakland City Councilwoman Jean Quan Robbed

OAKLAND (AP) - Police say an Oakland city councilwoman and mayoral candidate had her purse snatched while walking to her neighborhood supermarket.

Oakland police spokesman Jeff Thomason says 60-year-old Jean Quan was heading to a Safeway store near her Dimond District home around 9:35 p.m. Saturday when a man grabbed her purse and fled. She was not hurt.

Sue Piper, an aide to the councilwoman, says Quan was not immediately available for comment Sunday.

Quan is one of several candidates running for Oakland mayor in November.

Earlier this month City Councilman Ignacio De La Fuente had his Fruitvale District home burglarized for the second time.

In 2007, former State Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata, who is also running for mayor, was carjacked while driving in North Oakland.
