San Jose Reaffirms Quest To Bring A's To South Bay

The San Jose City Council has reaffirmed its commitment to Major League Baseball and the community in the form of a resolution as it seeks to bring the Oakland A's to San Jose. Voters will decide this spring whether to use public money for a stadium.

"Major League Baseball knows that we're ready to go, whenever they give us the sign we're ready to get in the game and hit away," said San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed. "Major League Baseball committed to helping us pay for a special election in the spring and I'm looking forward to picking a date."

Voters will be asked to authorize the use of public dollars to finish the acquisition of land for a stadium, and to negotiate with Lew Wolff and the A's ownership to privately build a stadium on public land.

"I am a big fan of generating revenues and jobs," said Reed. "Baseball is third on my list of importance."

Reed says the stadium will generate thousands of jobs, and millions of dollars for the city.
