Man Arrested After Being Found In San Rafael Girl's Room

SAN RAFAEL (BCN) - A 20-year-old Novato man was arrested early Wednesday after he was discovered in a young girl's bedroom, San Rafael police said.

Officers responded to a suspicious circumstance call at 3:05 a.m.  at home on Elda Drive. A woman at the home told police she had found a man lying on the floor of her 12-year-old daughter's bedroom when she went to check on the girl.

The woman identified the man as Darin Toshiro Kawamoto, who had apparently supervised the girl several years ago at the Vallecito child care program.

Kawamoto, who worked at the Vallecito Children's Center on an as-needed basis, had not worked there since March, police said.

Police said it appears Kawamoto went to the girl's bedroom window and she let him in. Officers located Kawamoto's car down the street from the home.

Kawamoto was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of lewd acts with a child and illegal entry with the intent to annoy a child. His bail was set at $50,000.

Police said there may be other victims related to this case.

Anyone with information about Kawamoto or this incident is asked

to call Detective Cpl. Scott Eberle at (415) 485-3017. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
