SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) – KCBS and Chronicle Insider Phil Matier talks about the charges that continue to fly between Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman and attorney Gloria Whitman over whether Whitman knew her housekeeper was an illegal immigrant.

He says that it appears the story popped up on its own, as opposed to being elicited from the Jerry Brown for governor campaign.

Matier says that the Whitman campaign knew it was brewing, but it doesn’t appear as if Democratic sources gathered together to expose the charges. In fact, Matier says the Whitman campaign was surprised that it came from Gloria Allred, not another source.
