San Francisco To Yuba County Trash Proposal Closer To Reality

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A proposal that would have San Francisco sending its trash to a landfill in Yuba County is moving closer to reality.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that under a proposed contract announced last week, in about five years San Francisco could start transporting its garbage to a landfill outside of Wheatland.

As part of its current contract that runs through 2015, San Francisco now sends its trash to a landfill outside of Livermore.

But under the proposed deal with Recology, formerly NorCal Waste Systems, the city's garbage would be trucked to Oakland, then transported by train to the Yuba County site.

The deal would still need to be approved by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.
