San Francisco Muni Has New Sick Leave Policy

A get tough policy that Muni managers instituted last month with drivers appears to be paying off.

Absenteeism at Muni has dropped 42 percent since early last month MUNI management requires drivers who call in sick to bring a note from their doctors.

KCBS Bob Melrose Reporting:

Drivers got a stern memo when word leaked that there might be some sort of sick out in protest of a November ballot measure that would change salaries and working rules.

Paul Rose, a spokesman for Muni, says management is not trying to get into a beef with the drivers.

"Our goal isn't to go after operators," he said. "Our goal is to increase our service for our customers."

A call to the drivers union was not returned.
