Golden Gate Park Golf Course Ruined By Vandals

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The little par-three golf course in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park has been hit by vandals and damage is in the tens of thousands of dollars.

The nine-hole course is tucked in the western corner of the park, near the Beach Chalet. Over the past few nights vandals have destroyed one of the greens, seriously damaged two others, and damaged some of the fairways. Officials say it looks like someone drove a four-wheel drive onto the course and spun doughnuts.

KCBS Bob Melrose Reporting:

"I think it's a fantastic course because it's got the city weather, it's in Golden Gate Park and it's close to the ocean," said Jim, a golfer. "It's a lovely course and it's great for the residents."

Damage to the course is estimated to be at least $75,000. No arrests have been made.

Earlier this year vandals damaged or destroyed 75 trees or plants in the park.
