Caltrain Approves Cuts, Fare Increases
SAN CARLOS (KCBS) - Service cuts and fare increases are in store for Caltrain passengers come the first of the year.
Members of the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board of Directors took about 20 minutes on Thursday discussing the proposal before unanimously approving it 8-0.
Under the plan, four midday trains will be eliminated, fares will go up 25 cents a zone and the monthly rider pass will increase from $140 to $155.

Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said midday service will be every hour instead of every half hour.
"We chose those trains because they have the least number of riders," Dunn said. "So we're trying to impact the fewest number of people possible."
Caltrain officials said they will also experiment with baby bullet weekend service, something that passengers have been asking for.
Dunn said the news could be even worse next year, as the agency has projected a $20-30 million budget deficit.
