Missing Teenage San Francisco Bay Windsurfer Rescued Along San Mateo Coast

SAN MATEO (KCBS) - A teenage windsurfer was rescued early Saturday morning more than six hours after he tumbled off of his board into San Francisco Bay.

Coast Guard spokeswoman, Lieutenant Simone Mausz said the boy was reported overboard near Coyote Point in San Mateo at 6 p.m. Friday evening.

"They conducted several searches throughout the night and finally at 1:30 Saturday morning they were able to find him and he was clinging to his surf board just north of San Mateo," said Lt. Mausz.

The boy was showing signs of hypothermia, but was otherwise believed to be okay.

Mausz said it was windy last night and that the boy's inexperience on the board contributed to the incident.
