MARKETING/CREATIVE SERVICES: Interns will receive an overview of the CBS 5 Marketing/Creative Services department with an emphasis on news promotion. Interns will receive an overview of strategic branding and marketing principles. Will assist Promotion Manager and producers with filing, tape library management and phone duty. Responsibilities include logging tapes, searching for news footage, and assisting on studio shoots. Will attend department meetings and will be exposed to desktop video editing system. THE CW BAY AREA CREATIVE SERVICES: (The CW Bay Area Pod Squad): Interns responsible for planning, producing, shooting and editing promo shoots for the CW Bay Area. PUBLIC RELATIONS/COMMUNICATIONS & BAY SUNDAY/PUBLIC AFFAIRS PROGRAM: Locate, clip and maintain filing system of newspaper press clippings; identify and pitch stories to reporters; work with talent to schedule public appearances; assist in answering switchboard phones and fill in on reception desk and answer viewer inquiries; write scripts for Bay Sunday, provide production assistance for Bay Sunday, prep guests, procure review copies of books and products, grow Bay Sunday facebook fan, you tube and twitter pages, make DVDs of show segments, make duplicate copies of b-roll for on air segments, enter scripts in iNews; help produce ethnic heritage celebrations; other special projects as assigned. The intern will attain working knowledge of the functions of Public Relations within a television station as well as a Public Affairs program. Intern will have direct contact with the press, critics and station talent. Intern will also have opportunity to develop writing and publicist skills. Candidates need strong organizational skills, writing skills essential; communication skills are an important aspect of the position and an ability to use office machines including photocopy, fax, tape duplication machines. Knowledge of social networking sites like twitter and facebook essential. Training provided, but applicants must also be quick studies.

SALES MARKETING: Responsibilities may include maintaining paperwork related to sales orders: filing; coordinating and preparing materials for sales presentations; organizing information, schedules and research for Account Executives. Will also be fulfilling various client requests including making tape dubs. Create video sales presentations. Work with other departments on sales projects. Work on community events will include preparation of materials in advance of events and presence at some events. Updating of sales marketing calendars and other marketing materials. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel helpful.

DESIGN: Intern supports the design department with projects relating to broadcast, print and the web. Strong design and communication skills are a must. Applicant should be a design major and skilled user of Photoshop, After Effects and Illustrator. PUBLIC AFFAIRS PRODUCTION AND PR INTERN: CW/CBS5
The public affairs intern will assist in the production of programs; transfer program content to the internet, help maintain an online presence via Facebook and twitter, generate show ideas; book and confirm guests; prepare potential scripts and questions for show hosts, meet and greet guests for shows; pre-interview guests; other duties as assigned. This internship will give students an opportunity to learn firsthand how a public affairs effort operates. They will learn how TV stations interact with the community and how public affairs programs are produced and publicized from the initial idea to the finished on-air product.
A bright, personable and energetic individual with strong writing skills and interest in current events and public affairs is an ideal candidate for this position. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college program, preferably in Communications, Broadcasting or Journalism. The non-paid internship will last at least for one semester, and although the hours are flexible, it will involve working Thursday mornings, 9 a.m. to noon, approximately 5 to 10 hours per week at the KPIX facility at Battery and Broadway in downtown San Francisco.
