San Jose Police Seek Man Who Tried To Kidnap 1-Year-Old Girl

SAN JOSE (BCN) -- Police are looking for a man who they say assaulted a woman and tried to kidnap her 1-year-old daughter in San Jose on Tuesday.

The victim was walking north on Monterey Road and pushing her daughter in a "push-and-ride" car when around 11:45 a.m., a man driving a red, two-door car stopped just north of the Rodling Condominiums entrance and started following her on foot, according to police.

A few seconds later, he grabbed the woman and pushed her aside and reached for the 1-year-old girl, police said.

The woman fought off the man, and he ran back to his car and drove away.

He was described as a Hispanic man in his late 20s to early 30s, around 5 feet 9 inches tall, with an average build.

He had dark hair and eyes and was wearing a black T-shirt and navy blue mechanic-style jumpsuit. He was sweaty and dirty with grease or oil, the victim told officers.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Carlos Melo at (408) 277-4161. Tipsters can remain anonymous by calling Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-STOP (7867).
