EPA Awards Grants To 4 Bay Area Projects

OAKLAND (AP) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is providing funding for environmental education and habitat restoration in three low-income Bay Area communities.

EPA administrator Lisa Jackson announced the environmental justice grants at a town hall meeting in Oakland on Saturday.

Jackson and members of the Congressional Black Caucus spent the day visiting several spots in the city, including a Superfund site and an urban food cooperative.

Four projects will each get a $25,000 grant.

The projects aim to educate low-income communities in Richmond and Oakland about climate change, restore a wildlife habitat in urban Richmond and develop a program to engage Latinos in San Rafael's Canal district in discussions about environmental issues.
