Woman Killed In Oakland Drive By Shooting

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Oakland police say a 29-year-old woman was killed and three men were injured in a drive-by shooting near Children's Hospital.

The shooting occurred around 11:57 p.m. Friday. Sgt. Tim Nolan told the Oakland Tribune the woman, identified as Carolyn Howard, and men were struck when more than one person in at least two vehicles opened fire.

Investigators don't have a motive, but they believe Howard was not the intended target.

Nolan says she and a group of friends were getting ready to go dancing and were standing near the men who were shot. Howard was pronounced dead at Highland Hospital about 40 minutes after the shooting.

The men, including a 19-year-old from Berkeley and an 18-year-old from Oakland, are expected to survive their injuries. Their names have not been released.
