BERKELEY (BCN) — Berkeley police have arrested a 21-year-old Bay Point man in connection with a fatal shooting Tuesday morning near Russell and Sacramento streets, a Berkeley police sergeant said Thursday.
Detectives arrested Brandon Wallace for allegedly shooting and killing 35-year-old Gary Ferguson Jr. and injuring an unidentified man, Sgt. Mary Kusmiss said.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Wallace Thursday with murder and attempted murder, she said.
At 8:43 a.m. Tuesday, officers arriving at the scene found the two victims lying on the ground near Johnson’s House Styles barber shop, located at 2914 Sacramento St.
The victims were transported to a nearby hospital, where Ferguson died from his injuries. The other victim, who suffered wounds to his lower body, was in serious condition Thursday, Kusmiss said.
She said police believe the two men were targeted.
Wallace was arraigned in Alameda County Superior Court Thursday afternoon, Kusmiss said.
Berkeley police are urging anyone with more information about the shooting to call the department’s homicide unit at (510) 981-5741 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
