14-year-Old Shot In Leg At Salinas Park

SALINAS (CBS/BCN) -- A 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg Saturday morning at a park in Salinas, police said.

The shooting was reported at about 10:45 a.m. at Closter Park near  the intersection of Beech Street and Dewey Avenue, according to police.

The teen, an admitted Sureno gang member, was on a bench in the  park with four or five other people when a black vehicle with tinted windows  and chrome rims stopped and waved him over to the car, police said.

The victim stayed on the bench, at which point a passenger in the car fired four or five rounds from a handgun at the victim, striking him once  in the lower left leg. The victim got up and ran to the bathrooms, where he discovered he was shot, according to police.

He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.

The suspect vehicle, described as an Acura, Lincoln Town Car or  Honda, was last seen fleeing east on Dewey Avenue and then north onto Towt  Street, according to police.

Most of the witnesses who were with the victim fled the scene on  foot when he was shot.
