Man In Wheelchair Falls In Front Of Hayward BART Train
HAYWARD (CBS/BCN) -- Officials say a man described as wheelchair-bound is hospitalized after falling in front of a Bay Area Rapid Transit train.
BART spokesman Linton Johnson says the man fell in front of a BART train at the Hayward station around 2:50 p.m. Saturday. Johnson had no details on the extent of the man's injuries, but said he was "alive" after being pulled from underneath the train.
The man was taken to Eden Hospital in Castro Valley.
The incident forced the shutdown the station and caused major delays on the Fremont line. A bus bridge was set up to shuttle passengers from Bayfair and South Hayward. Service was back to normal shortly before 5:00 p.m.
It's not clear how the man fell in front of the train, but Johnson says BART police are investigating.
