No More Police Department In San Carlos
SAN CARLOS (KCBS) – The San Carlos Police Department is no more after the city council voted in September to contract out law enforcement services to the Sheriff’s Department in a budget saving move.
It was a tumultuous few days for the men and women of the San Carlos police department, especially for Greg Rothaus, who went from being chief to a captain in the sheriff’s department.
“Yeah, it’s been a little surreal,” he said. “But there’s been a good buzz in the air, people are excited.”
KCBS’ Mike Colgan Reports:
Sheriff Greg Munks promised a seamless transition to San Carlos residents. He said the cars and uniforms look the same and half of the people patrolling the streets will be former police officers and half will be from the sheriff’s office.
For the former San Carlos police officers changing uniforms means an eight percent pay increase.
