Suspected Gang Member Shot Dead At San Francisco Nightclub

SAN FRANCISCO (BCN/AP) - A suspected gang member died after being shot multiple times at a nightclub in San Francisco's Marina District shortly before midnight Monday, a police spokesman said.

Emergency responders arrived at Gravity Room at 3251 Scott St.  shortly after midnight, according to a fire dispatcher, and found one victim with gunshot wounds.

The victim was identified as 22-year-old Jelvon Helton.  He was pronounced dead at San Francisco General Hospital.

Helton was allegedly a member of the Knockout Posse, a gang active in the city's Western Addition neighborhood.

Police say he was convicted in 2006 of being an accessory to threatening a security guard. He was also included in a court-approved injunction barring suspected gang members from associating with each other after 10 p.m.

Investigators have not identified a suspect and have released only a vague description of the possible shooter.

San Francisco police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said investigators will review surveillance footage, if available, to flesh out the description of the shooter. Witnesses who were at the crowded bar were also being interviewed, Esparza said.

Anyone with information about the homicide was asked to contact the San Francisco police by calling the anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or (415) TIPS-411.
