How Did Daylight Saving Time Get Started?
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS 5) – It ended over the weekend, now we're back to so-called "Standard Time." But Daniel Alotaya in Fremont asked this Good Question: How did Daylight Saving Time get started? And is it still necessary?
ANSWER: According to Hendrik Wolff of the University of Washington, the idea of daylight saving began in 1784 with Benjamin Franklin who suggested it be used as a way to get Parisians to be more productive. It was used in World War I and II in several countries as a way to save money and be productive.
