Calistoga Driver Killed In Single-Car Accident

A man was killed in a crash in unincorporated Sonoma County west of Calistoga Friday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred about 9:45 p.m. as the 25-year-old victim, a Calistoga resident, was driving north on Petrified Forest Road near Petrified Forest Lane and the Napa County line, according to the CHP.

The man's GMC Sierra pickup truck left the roadway and traveled onto the east shoulder before he veered back to the left and lost control of the vehicle, which collided with a rock embankment on the west side of the road, the CHP said.

The vehicle overturned and slid back across the road and came to rest on the east shoulder. The victim was ejected from the truck during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

His identity is not being released by the Sonoma County coroner's office until family members are notified.

Alcohol and excessive speed are being investigated as factors in the crash, according to the CHP.
