Kansas Hippo Headed To San Francisco Zoo

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- The Topeka Zoo will send an 8-year-old hippo who recently fathered a baby to San Francisco.

The zoo will throw a going away party for 8-year-old Tucker Nov. 22 before he is flown to the San Francisco Zoo.

Zoo Director Brendan Wiley says in a news release that the move is a chance for both zoos to meet the needs of their animal collections.

Tucker's mate, Mara, recently gave birth to a son, named Vision.

The baby hippopotamus will stay in Topeka.
