Richmond High School Rape Victim Settles With District

RICHMOND (AP) - The West Contra Costa school district has reached a financial settlement with the teen victim of a gang rape outside her Richmond High School homecoming dance.

A trustee of the district told the Contra Costa Times that the school board agreed to the settlement Oct. 20. A judge approved it Nov. 10, then quickly sealed the file.

Trustee Charles Ramsey told the Times that a lawsuit was never filed because both sides were able to agree on the settlement amount, which is undisclosed.
The victim's lawyer didn't return a call for comment.

Meanwhile, a preliminary hearing is under way for seven males accused in the October 2009 attack at Richmond High School. The defendants range in age from 16 to 43.

Six of them could face life in prison if convicted.
