South Bay Families Make Foster Kids' Dreams Come True

SAN JOSE (KCBS) - The dream of finding a permanent home came true for hundreds of Bay Area children in foster care on Friday.

The Santa Clara County Superior Court held a mass adoption finalization ceremony in celebration of National Adoption Day.

Max Janisch and his wife, who previously adopted a daughter, went home with their 8-month-old son.

KCBS' Mike Colgan Reports:

"My wife and I have been blessed with the birth parents choice to choose life and provide a couple like us with our dream of being parents," he said. "It's quite the journey. You have tears of joy, tears of happiness and when we have a beautiful end result like this, it's like hitting the lottery ten times over."

Jean Pennypacker is director of the court's family resources division.

"We're just calling attention to the necessity of having adoptive families. We're celebrating these families and asking the public to consider being an adoptive family," she said.

Each year, more than a thousand kids in Santa Clara County are placed in foster care.
